Husband, Father, Grandfather, Curler, Golfer, Great Guy!

George A. Wolz of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on June 24, 2021, surrounded by his children.

George was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Martha (née Decker), parents Anton and Barbara Wolz, and  siblings John and Theresa. George is survived by his children: Sarah (Peter Ory) of Mercer Island, WA, Chris (Eugenie Ballering) of Alexandria, VA, Julia and David of Milwaukee; and his five grandchildren:  Maria Ory, Charlie Ory,  Marian Wolz , Alexander Wolz, and Anna Wolz. George is further survived by brothers-in-law David Decker and Jerrold Eberhardt, sister-in-law Sylvia Decker, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

George was born May 30, 1934 in Chicago. His parents owned a grocery store, where allegedly, baby George was weighed on a meat scale. Growing up in Brookfield, Illinois, he attended St. Barbara's School, and graduated from Riverside-Brookfield High, where he discovered his passion for basketball. He attended University of Iowa on a basketball scholarship for one year, then transferred to Lake Forest College where he graduated in 1956 with a degree in Business Administration. His basketball legacy continues at LFC, where he is still on 6 record lists, including the most free throws in a game - 15 against North Central. George met Martha Decker while both were students at LFC, marrying upon graduation in 1956.

Recruited by Allen-Bradley for their management training program, and to play on the A-B Industrial League (AAU) basketball team, George retired from A-B after 45 years, as Manager of Credit and Collections.  George was active in the National Association of Credit Management (NACM), proudly serving on their board for years, and as NACM president in 1975.

As George and Martha’s family grew, they moved to Wauwatosa, where they lived for most of their lives. They were both long term members and avid curlers at the Wauwatosa Curling Club. George served as WCC president, participated in the Wisconsin State Senior Curling Association for many years, and was known for his infamous stuffed cabbage & sauerkraut for the annual “KrautSpiel”. George was active with his sons in Troop 21 Boy Scouts, coached and played in local basketball teams, was involved in Toastmasters, and served as a mentor for Junior Achievement.

George was a fabulous golfer, gardener, bridge and sheepshead player, gourmet cook of German specialties, and home remodeler extraordinaire. George and Martha enjoyed traveling around the world, as well as visiting their grandchildren on both coasts.

Friends are invited to join the family on Monday, July 26th for a celebration of his life at Hart Park / Wauwatosa Curling Club, 7300 W.
